LDS Missionary Opportunities for Senior Couples

"As couple missionaries, you and your wife should prepare to serve when that time comes. We need many, many more couple missionaries." Earl C. Tingey, LDS General Conference, April 1998

"Become involved in missionary service. We need increasing numbers of senior missionaries in missionary service. Where health and means make it possible, we call upon hundreds more of our couples to set their lives and affairs in order and to go on missions. How we need you in the mission field! You are able to perform missionary service in ways that our younger missionaries cannot. I'm grateful that two of my own widowed sisters were able to serve as missionary companions together in England. They were sixty-eight and seventy-three years of age when they were called, and they both had a marvelous experience. What an example and a blessing it is to a family's posterity when grandparents serve missions. Most senior couples who go are strengthened and revitalized by missionary service. Through this holy avenue of service, many are sanctified and feel the joy of bringing others to the knowledge of the fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ." Ezra Taft Benson, Come Listen to a Prophet's Voice, To the Elderly in the Church, p. 74

This is not an official site of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  We do not handle inquiries related to missionary service opportunities.  Senior couples or single sisters desiring to serve full-time missions should speak directly with their bishop or branch president.  This list is provided as a public service and highlights just a few of the many missionary opportunities available to temple-worthy couples in the blue Missionary Opportunities Bulletin distributed to each ward and branch every month.  For a more complete list, please refer to the bulletin on your ward bulletin board or speak with your bishop.

Senior couple missionaries are very much needed in missions around the world.  While there is a very large body of talented and able members of the Church of retirement age, many missionary opportunities for much-needed senior couples go unfilled every month.

There are approximately 4200 senior couple missionaries serving worldwide.  For an eleven-plus million member church, currently-serving senior couple missionaries represent only 0.038% of Latter-day Saints, or 1 in 2600 members!  Certainly we can and must do much better.  Please serve a senior mission now, if you can!  Please also forward this list to individuals you know who might qualify for missionary service.  And if you are not yet of retirement age, start planning to serve a senior mission now!  Start preparing spiritually, linguistically, doctrinally, and financially to be of service to others.  There is no more meaningful or rewarding service to God's children than that performed in the mission field.
